The United Nations Space Command, also known as the UNSC is the massive and powerful military government of planet Earth and surrounding allied territories in the Sol System, and various outlying systems. The UNSC is the ground and naval military force that acts as the arm and sword of the United Nations of Earth, the intergovernmental power made up of all human nations on the planet.
The UNSC was founded by the United Nations of Earth in the year 2089, its foundation deemed a necessity by the rapid progress made by humanity towards becoming capable of space exploration in the late 21st century, as the first functional spaceships and frigates were being created by human countries. Out of this bold decision arose a military government whose mission it would be to ensure peace, stability, and order throughout what would become human-controlled space.
As humanity spread out through the solar system, the UNSC was the force that acted as a guide and protector for colonists and corporations settling places like Luna, Mars, and the moons of Jupiter and Saturn. Following this, thanks to astronomical progress made by human scientists developing faster-than-light travel known as slipspace engines, humanity was able to settle territories beyond the Sol System as well, creating humankind's first space "empire". The UNSC is the power that governed and protected this interplanetary community.
Though the UNSC was created and founded by humans and human nations, the UNSC has been more than willing to incorporate non-human races into their ranks, in the spirit of creating a community of Earth races, not just humanity. Since the inception of the UNSC, numerous beastfolk have attained positions of power within the government, and there have even been examples of entirely non-human groupings in the UNSC, such as fighter squads made up of beastfolk.
The UNSC has always championed an egalitarian and fair view of governing Earth and her allied territories, however many among humanity oppose this ideal. Namely, the radical human-supremacist group Cerberus has been the strongest opponent of the UNSC's policies and ideals. Cerberus started off as UNSC special forces, but broke off due to ideological differences and since, Cerberus and the UNSC have been wary of each other at the best of times - outright enemies at the worst. The primary opposition to the UNSC's authority is the Martian Empire, younger than the coalition of Earth governments, but claiming total independence due to innate Martian independent and fiery nature, as well as the current Martian Emperor's arrogance and impertinence.
Despite these things, the UNSC has remained the strongest defender of Earth and all her allies, preventing disaster time and time again, and even when threats great and numerous arise, the UNSC's stalwart spirit and bravery always seeing humanity and the entire Earth community at large through every crisis.
